How to Audition
Auditions will take place in the Minor Latham Playhouse (Milbank Hall 118, Barnard Campus) during the first week of the spring semester.
There is no sign-up process. First year students should plan to audition on Wednesday in the spring semester the first session at 6:00 pm and the second session at 7:15 pm; other students should plan to audition on Tuesday. Arrive at the theatre at 6:00 pm for the first session, 7:45 pm for the second session and 9:00 pm for the third session. You will receive instructions: rank for all acting classes that you are interested in, do your monologue, and, if you are auditioning for a musical class, your song.
Students with little or no prior acting experience are welcome and encouraged to try out.
Tips and full details on how to audition can be found on this page.
The audition process begins Tuesday 1/22 (the first day of the academic year) and runs until Wednesday 1/23.
First, there will be an informational meeting at 5:30 PM on Tuesday 1/22 that all auditioners should attend, where the instructors will explain their courses and the directors will talk briefly about their visions for the shows.
Then you will attend one of the following two sessions (again, your choice; no sign-ups necessary):
6:30 PM – 7:30 PM, 7:45 PM – 8:45 PM, 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM
6:00 PM – 7:00 PM, 7:15 PM – 8:15 PM
On Thursday 1/24, the class rosters will be finalized and posted in the morning, and “callbacks” (the second round of auditions for stage productions) will take place that evening.
The cast lists for Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again, The Spirit of Man, pool (no water), and Trifles will be finalized and posted Friday 1/25.
Acting classes begin immediately after auditions, starting on Thursday 1/24. You can register for an acting course in advance of auditions (for example, if you need a placeholder in your schedule to indicate you are taking a full course load next spring), but once you are placed in a specific acting class, you must enroll in the correct section as soon as possible.
Rehearsals for productions are Monday through Friday, 6:30 PM to 11 PM and Saturday afternoon. All cast members must enroll in THTR UN2022 Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again, THTR UN2023 The Spirit of Man, THTR UN2024 pool (no water) and THTR UN2025 Trifles as the productions are taken for course credit.
The time commitment for productions is for half of the semester, not the full semester. Thus:
Revlot. She Said. Revolt Again rehearsals will begin by (TBA), and the show closes Saturday (TBA).
The Spirit of Man rehearsals will begin by (TBA), and the show closes Saturday (TBA).
pool (no water) rehearsals will begin by (TBA), and the show closes Saturday (TBA).
Trifles rehearsals will begin by (TBA), and the show closes Saturday (TBA).
