Internships

The Department of Theatre does not sponsor internships with off-campus organizations, and does not offer academic credit for internships. And, while we recognize the personal and professional value that might accrue from an internship, we also understand that unpaid internships can offer a privileged form of access to students who have the financial resources to be able to work in a volunteer position.

For this reason, the Department no longer advertises unpaid internships to its student mailing lists. Students who are interested in internships should contact provider organizations directly. Both Barnard and Columbia offer grant programs to which students can apply to fund unpaid internships: Barnard students should contact Beyond Barnard, and Columbia students should contact the Columbia Center for Career Education.

While the department does not sponsor internships, external summer programs, or other employment opportunities, we have compiled this spreadsheet listing many such opportunities as a jumping-off point for students interested in pursuing employment or further study outside of Barnard/Columbia. This is generally updated on a semesterly basis; please contact theatre@barnard.edu with any questions, access issues, or with suggestions of additional material to include.
