Intersectionalities: Rethinking American Theatre
Thursday, March 28, 2019
Sulzberger Parlor, 3rd Floor Barnard Hall, Barnard Campus
Free and open to the public
Focusing on the emerging intersectionality of American theatre, a panel of theatre artists and leaders—Roberta Uno (Director of Arts in a Changing America), Mia Yoo (Artistic Director, La MaMA), Hansol Jung (playwright, director), and moderator Jonathan McCrory (Artistic Director, National Black Theatre)—consider the practices of activism and collaboration diversifying the contemporary American stage, in today’s reality of shifting demographics and globalization. This will end our series with a nod to the future, as we head towards the predicted 2042 turning point (when people o f color are projected to become the majority of the population).
This is the last of three panels in the 2018-19 series Asian Americans in Theatre: Art and Activism, curated by Marina Chan ’17CC and co-sponsored by the Barnard College Department of Theatre, Stages of Inquiry series, and Asia Society, Performing Arts Department.
