Kara Feely (BC ’99) joined the Theatre Department as Costume Shop Manager in 2005. In addition to overseeing the Costume Shop, she also teaches design and directing courses, such as Problems in Design, Collaboration: Directing and Design, and Costume Design. Outside of Barnard, Kara is active as a director, writer, and designer for experimental theater and interdisciplinary performance. In 2004 she co-founded Object Collection, a theater-music performance group that presents original experimental operas, plays, performance events, and installations. She has directed over 20 projects for the company at numerous venues and festivals both in New York and internationally, including La MaMa ETC, Abrons Arts Center Chocolate Factory Theater, PS 122/PSNY, Performa, Roulette, National Sawdust, the Lab (San Francisco), Café Oto (London), Echonance Festival (Amsterdam), Borealis Festival (Norway), and SPOR Festival (Denmark). Object Collection has been profiled in Freize, the Wire, the White Review, New Music Box, and the Brooklyn Rail, and has album releases on Slip Imprint/Dischord, Awave Press, and Infrequent Seams. Kara’s writings and performance texts have been published in PAJ, Play a Journal of Plays, and the Experimental Music Yearbook, among others.
