David Skeist
David Skeist is an actor and multidisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY. He has appeared, often repeatedly, in the works of Javier Antonio González, Richard Foreman, David Gordon, Elizabeth Swados, and Doris Mirescu at The Public Theater, Skirball Center, Abrons Arts Center, BAM, and Peak Performances. David is producing director of the bilingual ensemble Caborca and performs in most of the company’s works including Zoetrope, Distant Star, and award-winning feature film The Entitlement. He recently acted in the US premiere of Romina Paula’s Fauna (Torn Page) and the first English reading of Josep Maria Miró’s solo play The Nicest Body Ever Seen Around These Parts (PlayCo). A composer of theatrical choral music, David is currently writing scores for a heavy metal musical about right whales (Caborca), a staged setting of a long-form poem about extinction (M-34), and an international site-specific work about geopolitics (x.sud art/site). They directed Susan Hyon’s solo performance Soo Jin Pretty Nail (and more) and the first English reading of Günther Weisenborn’s 1946 play Die Illegalen about the underground resistance to Hitler in Berlin. From 2010–2012, David was assistant to André Gregory during the final stages of his work on Ibsen’s The Master Builder including the film adaptation by Jonathan Demme. He holds an MFA from Columbia and teaches Acting at Barnard.
